Après: the numbered Swedish range, from Zero to Hyper Strong

Après is the brand that gave up on flavour names and went with numbers. No.3 Lemon Curd, No.5 Ice Tea Peach, No.11 Bananas, No.12 Blueberry — the number is the product and the flavour is the footnote, which works fine once you know yours and is baffling for about a week before that. We list 0 of them. The thing worth knowing before you pick one is that the numbering tells you nothing about strength: two cans a digit apart can be a world away on dose.

What the range is actually built on is drinks and puddings. Tangerine Spritz, Hugo Spritz and Pink Spritz are the aperitivo end; Appletini and Limoncello Di Capri are cocktails; Mochaccino is a coffee; Lemon Curd, Very Berry and Must are desserts and soft drinks. Cola is a cola. Mint and Menthol are the only two cold options in the whole catalogue, and Raspberry Liqorice and Ski are the two that do not sort neatly into any of that. If you want a mint-led shelf this is emphatically the wrong brand.

The dose ladder has six rungs and spans the full width of what a pouch can be. The Zero cans carry no nicotine at all. Above them: Minis at 3.2 mg a pouch, the numbered Light cans at 4 mg, standard Slims at 4.4 mg, Limoncello Di Capri alone at 5.5 mg, and the Hyper Strong cans at 11 mg. Every can in the range holds 20 pouches whichever rung it sits on, in Mini or Slim. All white, all tobacco-free, nothing burned and nothing spat out. Shipped from British Columbia across Canada, from CA$0.00 a can.

Après questions

They are flavour identifiers and nothing else. No.2 is Mint, No.3 is Lemon Curd, No.5 is Ice Tea Peach, No.12 is Blueberry. The number tells you which taste you are getting and deliberately says nothing about how strong it is — the dose is printed on each listing, and the same number appears at several strengths across the range.
